01 · Computational design

Form

A profile and a few rules become a solid.

02 · Slicing

Layers

The solid is split into layers, each one a path for the robot.

160layers
2.0mm per layer
03 · Pattern

Weave

On the curves the path oscillates and interlaces, to the millimetre.

04 · Robotic printing

Print

The robot lays the clay bead, layer after layer.

0metres of clay bead
0hours of printing
05 · Kiln

Firing

The piece dries, shrinks and turns to bisque in the kiln.

1,000°C
28.8cm tall
06 · Hand finishing

Glazes

Colour arrives by brush and settles into the valleys of the weave.

  • Copper green
  • Cobalt blue
  • Milk white
07 · Artistic finishes

Finishes

Then fire decides part of the result.

  • Obvara: dipped red-hot into a yeast bath
  • Raku: crackle in the white
  • Drip: the glaze runs and stops
